My name is Abebayehu Zemedkun Mekonen. I am from Ethiopia and completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in anesthesia at
leading higher education institutions in the country. My professional experience includes serving as an anesthetist and lecturer at a
tertiary healthcare institution, where I have actively contributed to anesthesia services and training of future anesthetists. In addition to my
clinical responsibilities, I have engaged in various research activities, publishing different articles utilizing quantitative and qualitative
methods. My leadership roles include serving as the Head of the Anesthesia Department and as an Executive Board Member of the
Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists.
With my experience in clinical and academic settings, particularly in perioperative and intensive care units, I am equipped with pain
management, anesthesia, and critical care knowledge. My proposed PhD project focuses on pain and frailty among older surgical patients
in Ethiopia (sub-Saharan Africa), an area of critical importance for advancing perioperative research both nationally and internationally.
