Research interests

Adriana, born and raised in Lima, Peru, developed a deep love and curiosity for the ocean early in life. She belongs to the first promotion of marine biologist in Peruvian history. A transformative three-month internship in the Galapagos marine reserve ignited her passion for conserving endangered marine predators. She holds a Master’s in fisheries biology and management from James Cook University. For her undergraduate and master theses, she studied the habitat uses and threats of smooth hammerhead sharks off northern Peru. Over the past 12 years, Adriana has published around 30 scientific papers and, currently is actively participating in the IUCN’s global project to map critical habitats for sharks and rays. She is a former Antarctic expeditionary and has been honored with the “Outstanding Young PeruvianConservationist” award. Adriana promotes environmental awareness in coastal communities through outdoor science activities and storytelling, fostering a connection to nature in children.
