Áine is a PhD candidate at the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL). She is researching the impacts of climate and land cover change on fire regimes. Combining her interests in fire, spatial science, and mountains she aims to use remote sensing and field work to better understand the role of fire in maintaining montane grasslands and how this is chang-ing due to warming temperatures and the spread of invasive species, issues that are particular-ly impactful at higher elevations. Prior to her PhD research, Áine spent time on various field-work and GIS projects around the world in both marine and terrestrial ecology, interspersed with long stints of rock climbing. Áine holds a Batchelor of Science with First Class Honours in Fire Ecology from the University of Tasmania.
