Personal profile

Research interests

Angel grew up in Monterrey, one of Mexico's most populous and industrially developed cities. During his bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, he spent the last two years working in a research centre, which awakened his research interest in polymer science, which led him to do his MSc in Materials Science with an orientation in polymers at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico. One of the main findings during his master’s research work was that the chemical modification of the polymer chain of polypropylene with a pyrene derivative enhances its interaction with 2-dimensional novel fillers such as boron nitride and molybdenum disulphide, resulting in better dispersion of the fillers in the polymer matrix. Later, he gained experience in the indu stry by working in a plastic extrusion and injection moulding facility as a production manager for seven years. Currently, he is supervised by Professor Bogdan Dlugogorski, Professor Suresh Thennadil, and Dr Vinuthaa Murthy. Also, he is advised by Professor Mohammednoor Altarawneh from United Arab Emirates University and by the industrial experts Dr Sergei Levchik and Dr Joel Tenney.
