Research interests

Angela Rumaseb is a PhD student with the malaria team (Global and Tropical Health Division) undertaking a project focusing on strengthening the molecular surveillance of malaria caused by the Plasmodium vivax parasite. Her PhD project involves the development and optimisation of laboratory protocols to provide a framework for P. vivax molecular surveillance in malaria-endemic countries. Her research extends to the application of molecular methods to evaluate the epidemiology of the hidden P. vivax spleen reservoir as well as P. vivax transmission dynamics across Indonesian archipelago. Ultimately, the project aims to utilise molecular surveillance to gain insight into how P. vivax parasites are spreading within and between communities, and where the main infection reservoirs are.
