Ben Grimes is a lecturer in law who specialises in communication issues in the criminal justice system and cross-cultural legal education. Ben worked as criminal lawyer and community legal educator with the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency, and worked with the Aboriginal Interpreter Service, managing 50 full-time staff and 350 interpreters across the NT. In addition to legal qualifications (ANU), Ben holds degrees in Asian Studies (ANU) and Applied Linguistics (UNE). Ben speaks a number of languages, and worked at a language centre in Indonesia for four years. Ben regularly works with courts and legal services to reduce the linguistic disadvantage faced by people in the legal system. Ben runs the CDU Indigenous Pre-law and Mentoring Program.
