Research interests
Brandon Sideleau is a PhD student studying human-saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) conflict throughout the entire range of the species. He founded the worldwide crocodilian attack database (currently known as CrocAttack) in 2010 and has previously conducted human-crocodile conflict surveys on the islands Flores, Lembata, Sumba, and Timor in East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia in 2015 and 2017. He has also been involved in crocodile population surveys in Belize and Mexico (Jalisco and Sinaloa). He became a member of the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group in 2012 and currently assists the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in species distribution and mapping. The fieldwork for his PhD will be conducted in Papua New Guinea, since crocodile attacks in the country are believed to go unreported on a frequent basis.
