Research interests

Dr Haiyan (Helen) Miao is a senior lecturer in the CEIE specialising in Mechanical Engineering. She is interested in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and numerical simulation in the fields of renewable energy, spray & combustion and urban microclimate. More specifically, her work examines measures to improve thermal comfort and reduce building energy consumption, seeks innovative ways to use renewable energy resources efficiently in transportation and power generation with low emissions, and develops a variety of design tools based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Helen holds PhD degree in mechanical engineering and won the 3M Best Project Gold prize, Ministry of Education, Singapore in 2017 and Shaanxi Provincial Government Scientific and Technological Progressive Award, China in 2007.
