Research interests

Huijia (Vicky) Liu, a Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Arts and Society, is undertaking research on international students and the role of online communication platforms in identity construction and maintenance in Darwin. She received a bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours in Communications and Media Studies from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia in 2018. During her Honours research, she examined gender representations in popular Chinese romantic television dramas. Her work aimed to challenge the problematic dichotomy often invoked in their interpretations as either modern or traditional by exploring the anthropological concept of liminality. Vicky also holds a professional position in the Australian international education industry and has a keen interest in media sociology, transnational communities, and international education.
