Research interests
Jenny is a transdisciplinary practitioner and researcher, with a focus on fisheries management and governance, participatory monitoring, gender equity, and social inclusion. She has a decade of experience working across the Asia-Pacific, with a particular interest in Timor-Leste, Vanuatu, and Australia. Jenny has a background in monitoring & evaluation, participatory social and ecological research methodologies, and community engagement. She has extensive experience as a facilitator and trainer, which includes experience in community-based natural resource management, photovoice (participatory photography/participatory action research), ecotourism, and GEDSI.
In her research, Jenny explores how social relations and power dynamics shape how people and institutions interact with each other, their resources, and the environment. She is passionate about epistemic justice and strives to amplify the voices of fishers, communities, and underrepresented groups.
She received her PhD from Charles Darwin University in 2024, entitled, “Gendered perspectives of community-based fisheries management and participatory monitoring in Timor-Leste.” She holds a Master of Science in Marine Environmental Management from the University of York and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Marine Biology from the University of St Andrews.
