Research interests

Dr. Kamal Melvani is currently working in a CRC project to review literature on the commercialization of Australian native rice for Indigenous economic development. Her research areas include tropical agriculture, land restoration, climate variability, food, and nutrition security. She is knowledgeable and skilled in multiple restoration techniques including regenerative agriculture, conservation forestry, analog forestry, riparian forestry, and bioremediation. Kamal has designed and led the implementation of 27 watershed restoration projects for the Neo Synthesis Research Centre in Sri Lanka. She has a multidisciplinary Ph.D. on the social, ecological, financial, food and nutrition values of forest gardens in Sri Lanka, and an interdisciplinary M.Sc. on the bioremediation of nitrates in groundwater.
