Laurence's teaching and research is in the multi-disciplinary intersection of programming, education and sociology.
He conceptualised the Bali Coding Project, which provides Balinese youth with coding skills to pursue employment opportunities, and has taught coding in Bali and to undergraduate initial teacher education students in Australia.
He reads both Bourdieu and Baudrillard, and is currently researching autonomous weapons systems and cognition machines from a particular theoretical perspective.
Laurence is also member of the Vatician AI Initiative - Asian Group.
He maintains an interest in responding to the often uncritical misrepresentation of liberal-humanism by so-called 'critical' theory.
