Research interests

Dr Lorna Quinnell is a Lecturer at Charles Darwin University in the College of Arts and Society, specialising in mathematics. She is interested in literacy in mathematics, in particular pre-service teachers’ understanding of the language, symbolism, and representations used in mathematics. Her other research work has focused on the diversity of symbolism and representations in mathematics, the literacy demands of NAPLAN tests, mathematical investigations and problem solving, and critical thinking. Dr Lorna Quinnell holds degrees in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Education. She has published in mathematics education, literacy education, and other education and research journals.
