Research interests
Marylin Cariño is a dedicated health researcher currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy at Charles Darwin University in Australia. She
holds a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in
Biochemistry from the University of Manitoba. Previously based on Treaty 1 Territory, the ancestral lands of the he ancestral lands of the
Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk (Ininew) Nations and the Homeland of the Red River Métis, she
is now based in Larrakia Country. With extensive experience in research coordination and project management, she has worked with
various organizations, including the Menzies School of Health Research and the Children’s Hospital Research Institute, focusing on diabetes
management and health outcomes for First Nations youth. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications on the impact of the COVID-
19 pandemic on adolescents with type 2 diabetes and the clinical characteristics of Canadian youth with diabetes. Her professional
experience includes leading focus groups, conducting qualitative research, and collaborating with health professionals and community
organizations. Additionally, she has worked internationally with the World Health Organization on health policy recommendations for Ebola
Virus Disease survivors. Marylin's diverse skill set and commitment to improving health equity make her a valuable asset in the field of
public health research.
