Research interests

I hold an MSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences (Massey University, NZ). My first research paper looked at the molecular epidemiology of Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus) from throat swabs of children from high-risk areas. The objective was to see patterns of emm types and their association with Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) which is prevalent in Northland & Gisborne, New Zealand (NZ). These were compared to emm types from a low risk area of Palmerston city (NZ).

I have worked in the Medical Laboratory field for over 20 years, the last 8 years of which I specialised in Microbiology in NZ. I am currently employed as a research active academic teaching undergraduate Microbiology & Immunology at Charles Darwin University (Australia).

My research areas of intrest are in Microbiology, Immunology and population health
