Research interests

Nur Isiyana Wianti, or ‘Yanthi’, is a lecturer from the Agricultural Extension program at the University of Halu Oleo (UHO) in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Yanthi holds an agricultural bachelor’s and master’s degree in rural sociology program from IPB University. Some of her previous research projects in Indonesia have focused on the livelihood study of dry land swidden farming communities and seaweed aquaculture in Sulawesi, Corporate Social Responsibility in mining, smallholder forest farmers in Java, and social resilience of Sama Bajo in small island Sulawesi. She has also collaborated with Australian researchers on an ARC Discovery Project on household vulnerability, food security, and the politics of social protection among Sama-Bajo fishing communities in Southeast Sulawesi. Yanti commenced her PhD in 2023 in the Communities and Livelihoods Group in RIEL and is a DFAT Australia Awards Indonesia PhD Scholarship holder intake 2023 and an Allison Sudrajat Prize Winner 2023. Her PhD focuses on gender relations and women's social identities impacted by a range of livelihood vulnerabilities and their coping mechanisms in two Sama-Bajo communities in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.
