Research interests

Paulene Mackell is an experienced social worker with a multidisciplinary academic background. She has experience of working in geographically remote locations, with and alongside Aboriginal community-controlled organisations. 
Paulene has worked with several teams to successfully generate over $5.8 mil in research funding, and of these, she has initiated projects that total over $1.4 mil. This includes forming a collaboration that explored how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled art centres keep their Elders, and people living with dementia, strong and connected. 
Paulene is committed to undertaking participatory research methodologies that engage with local knowledge making processes and promote health and ageing, intergenerational connection, and sustainable communities. She is currently undertaking her PhD through the School of Design at RMIT University
