Research interests

Richard Midford is Professor of Health in Education, a joint appointment between Charles Darwin University and the Menzies School of Health Research. Richard also holds an adjunct appointment at the National Drug Research Institute.

His academic research focuses on the development of wellbeing programs in schools, how alcohol and other drug harm prevention programs can be developed in partnership with local communities and prevention of alcohol and other drug harm in workplace settings. He has worked as a consultant to a number of industry groups, government departments, and international organisations, including WHO, and has sat on numerous boards and committees.

In the past ten years he has received over A$5 million in competitive grant or commissioned research funding. He has published over 100 journal articles, monographs, books and book chapters on his work. He was the ARC Linkage grant holder for The Drug Education in Victorian Schools (DEVS) project which received the 2012 National Drug and Alcohol Award for excellence in prevention and community education.
