Research interests

Samy completed his Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management and his Master’s in Environmental Sciences in Colombia. His master's project aimed to study the bioecology of sugarcane stem borers and their natural enemies in the Cauca River Valley, Colombia. After working for the Colombian Public Health Department, he moved to Brisbane in 2018, where he completed his Master’s in Public Health and Project Management at Torrens University Australia. Samy's PhD project focuses on understanding the impacts of mining on Indigenous well-being. This project can mitigate mining impacts and improve Indigenous well-being by developing tailored mine rehabilitation plans that consider the role of Ecosystem Services towards people’s well-being.
