I have 2 main research interests: 1. rehabilitation adherence and 2. neck and upper limb disorders.
In my research area of rehabilitation adherence I am interested in understanding why patients do not follow treatment recommendations or self-management advice and what we as physiotherapists might be able to do to facilitate adherence. Currently I am working with colleagues from Sheffield Hallam University, UK and Latrobe University, Australia to identify determinants of non-adherence with physical activity recommendation in patients with metabolic syndrome and seeking to identify evidence based strategies to improve uptake and maintenance of physical activity in people with metabolic syndrome.
With regards my neck and upper limb research, I am most interested in why people with non-specific neck pain develop upper limb disorders and how we improve the physiotherapy management of these patients. I have developed and validated a performance based measure of upper limb disability for this patient group and which is now available for use in clinical practice. I am interested in doing further work in this area with PhD students.
