Research interests

Phong is currently a PhD candidate at Charles Darwin University, specializing in the application of machine learning to mechanical
engineering. His project, titled _"Machine Learning Application in Quality Assurance in Additive Manufacturing"_, focuses on developing
advanced machine learning models to improve quality control in additive manufacturing (AM) processes, including 3D printing. With a
background in mechanical engineering and information technology, Phong's research aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of AM
by identifying and predicting defects, analyzing process-microstructure-property relationships, and supporting real-time monitoring using
supervised and deep learning methods. By addressing current challenges such as data scarcity and model interpretability, his work seeks
to contribute to more intelligent, and scalable quality assurance frameworks in the AM industry. Phong is based at Pink 7 on Casuarina
Campus, and is supervised by Prof. Krishnan Kannoorpatti, along with Dr. Yakub Sebastian, Dr. Thuseethan Selvarajah, and Dr. Asif Karim.
