Tithchanbunnamy Lor is a PhD candidate, in school of Education, with her project focusing on “Building community capacity in Cambodia using a community-based participatory approach: A case study". The concept of capacity refers to the ability of a specific community to mobilise, identify its pertinent issues and act in an informed way toward a shared concept of progress. Community development and building the capacity of local communities need to progress hand in hand. The proposed study plans to develop a model for generating a capacity-building community dialogue that will (a) assist practising teachers in designing learning experiences for students that are embedded in the community context, informed by the community consultation process and aiming to build community social capital; (b) help teacher educators contextualise their curricula by drawing on the broader community knowledge, experience and needs; and (c) provide community leaders with experiences relevant for interpreting and integrating community needs into their own professional contexts.
