Research interests

Ulrike Erika Kachel is a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Faculty of Arts and Society at Charles Darwin University, Darwin, Australia. Her teaching focuses on sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation, which is informed by her own entrepreneurial background, extensive interdisciplinary research, and teaching experiences. Ulrike has strong industry backgrounds in information technology (IT) and tourism, including online marketing and platform development, events management, and working in dive tourism in the Caribbean. Her research focuses on sustainability, agency theory, and decision-making in the field of tourism, events, and higher education research. Recent research projects evolved around ethical considerations of animals in tourism and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in tourism, events, and higher education. Ulrike holds degrees as a Graduate Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) in Systems Analysis (Bremerhaven, Germany), Masters in Ecotourism (JCU, Australia), PhD in Tourism Management (Griffith, Australia), and a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (CDU, Australia); she has extensive teaching experiences and taught in the UK and Australia.
