Blue Carbon Research and Feasibility Study in QLD

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Opportunities for Blue Carbon projects using the current ‘Tidal Restoration’ and proposed methods likely to be approved by the Commonwealth Clean Energy Regulator within the next 3-5 years, including ‘the ungulate management’ and the ‘seagrass and mangrove restoration’ methods will be investigated. These methods have been the focus of recent State and Commonwealth government-hosted meetings that have aimed to coordinate research and policy across multiple jurisdictions in preparation for Commonwealth approval.
The case studies will identify potential, commercially viable blue carbon projects in both jurisdictions that can result in the acquisition of ACCUs. We propose identifying and exploring a maximum of six opportunities across northern QLD. CDU is partnering with James Cook University and the University of Queensland, which have extensive insight into the blue carbon opportunities and, importantly, a network of local partners that will assist significantly with the blue carbon assessment.
