Conservation Ecology of the Greater Bilby

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis) is an iconic threatened Australian mammal. It is the only remaining member of the family Thylacomyidae (following the extinction of the lesser bilby [M.leucura] in 1982). The overarching aim of this project is to improve the trajectory of the bilby in the Northern Territory's (NT) arid zone. This will be achieved by addressing current gaps in knowledge of the ecology and distribution of bilbies, especially in relation to the identified key threats, thereby
informing more effective management.
