Description
The project will develop the Kidney Support Worker model to supplement the professional workforce shortage and increase opportunities for care closer to home for maintenance dialysis clients. A training program will be developed for non-regulated workers to contribute to the supervised delivery of maintenance dialysis services in urban, rural and remote settings and will:
• Focus on clinical governance, safe, high-quality care with consumer and community engagement.
• Complement the professional workforce reducing the number of Registered Nurses required.
• Enable place-based training and employment for First Nations Peoples in rural and remote settings as well as potential pathways into higher education.
• Assist in providing sustainable maintenance dialysis services closer to home.
