Radar and communication system play a significant role in the modern defence and warfare system. The incoming microwave signal characteristics such as the instantaneous frequency, the signal amplitude, Doppler frequency shift (DFS) and the angle of arrival (AOA) require to be detected by radar and be estimated accurately in order to provide appropriate actions. In addition, multiple-signal AOA measurement is required for multiple-target tracking in some radar applications.
The conventional electrical approaches for acquiring target information have limited resolution, operation frequency range and suffer from electromagnetic interference. The aim of the project is to design AOA estimation system based on microwave photonic technique which overcome conventional electrical measurement system drawbacks. Moreover, the photonic system needs to realise DFS and AOA measurement at same time for multiple targets.
