Description

There are many similarities between small-scale fisheries in the Pacific Islands and in Timor-Leste. In both regions various forms of community-based fisheries management (CBFM) are used. There is a need to improve gender equity in the context of CBFM in both places, and the Pathways project is using unique and innovative tools to address this issue. I propose to use this NT Crawford Student Award to:

1. Observe Pathways project activities and learn about how their research tools are being implemented in the Pacific, specifically Vanuatu.
2. Share lessons learned from Timor-Leste or relevant training with Pathways Vanuatu team members, especially their staff working on gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI). This will explore ways people that have been marginalised participate in CBFM and how best practice research is conducted.
