Badimaya Dictionary: An Aboriginal language of Western Australia

Abstract

This is a dictionary of the Badimaya language. Badimaya is the name of the language and people whose country spans a large region of Mid West Western Australia, from Lake Moore, Ninghan Station and Paynes Find in the south, to Mount Magnet, Wynyangoo Station and Kirkalocka Station in the north.

This dictionary describes the meanings and uses of Badimaya words. It provides Badimaya to English translations, example sentences of the language in use, and includes additional encyclopedic, cultural and historical information. To help the reader find Badimaya words quickly and easily, there is an English to Badimaya finder list, plus separate lists of animal, insect, bird and plant names. Also included is information about Badimaya kinship, a guide to spelling and pronouncing Badimaya words, and a short guide to Badimaya grammar. This dictionary has been written using non-technical language, to make it accessible to a wide readership.
