Abstract
Open textbooks are a form of Open Education Resources (OER) that are open and free as part of a global citizenry movement for accessible and affordable education. Most tertiary institutions worldwide have committed to making educational resources more affordable and accessible, mainly by reducing the costs of textbooks. With commercial textbook sales declining and increasing purchasing costs for students (Lambert & Fadel, 2022), there is still limited research into the applications and implementation of open textbooks within the Vocational Educational and Training (VET) sector. In Australia, a common method of creating and deploying open textbooks within the higher education sector has recently been with Pressbooks, which is also suitable for VET. This research paper explores open textbook and ebook creation use cases within the VET sector, each with various levels of adaptability and complexity that offer a benchmark and model for others to follow.
