N2 - The report provides an evaluation of an accelerated entry program for the BSW at the University of Sydney. This program enables students who have successfully completed a TAFE Diploma in a related field, to enter the second year of the four year BSW degree. The mixed methods study included an online survey of participating students, semi-structured interviews with students, and interviews with key staff members involved in the program. The findings indicated a range of positive outcomes and ongoing challenges for students and staff. Recommendations included curriculum reform to support the knowledge - skills transition including access to specific programs focussing on academic writing and literacy; targeted student preparation as part of initial engagement, including enrollment processes and orientation, and ongoing student support through mentoring and other initiatives providing more individualised information-giving to students.
