Investigating the causal relationship between gender roles, resilience, psychological hardiness, learned helplessness and codependency of addicts’ wives

Abstract

Having a healthy society depends on having healthy individuals and good families which would prevent many later problems, and it will be followed by growth and development. Addiction is one of the most manifested and clearest reasons which causes irreparable damages to family members, especially addicts’ spouses, physically and emotionally. Attending to these matters, this research studies causal relationship between gender roles of addicts’ wives, resilience, psychological hardiness, learned helplessness, and codependency among addicts’ wives. The method of this study was descriptive -correlative method. The population was drug addicts’ wives who had visited addiction treatment centers in Isfahan.120 of them were selected based on availability. They completed demographic questionnaire and also BSRI, CD-RISC, HI, CODI scales and Attribution style questionnaires. Path Analysis method was used for analyzing the data in SPSS-17 and Amos-5. In addition, the results indicate the reverse effects of masculine gender roles and direct effect of feminine gender role on codependency. Structural equation modeling fit indexes confirmed the general model of the study. Also direct and indirect effects between variables were approved.
