Abstract
In Indonesian social and cultural meanings are conveyed by making appropriate choices in both colloquial varieties of Indonesian and regional languages. Learning the social implications of such code choice is best supported by authentic video materials, but currently little in the way of appropriate materials is available for Indonesian. The present paper shows how such learnings might be promoted by a multimedia approach drawing on Indonesian television programs and designed to promote learner autonomy by enabling learners to access and interact with the material in a number of ways.
