Abstract

The Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) play an important
role in providing ecosystem services such as water quality
and flow, erosion control in riverbeds and springs, as well as
biodiversity protection. The areas of APPs are established in
the Native Vegetation Protection Law, but in order for the
protection of these areas to be ensured in its integrity, public
incentive policies such as the Program of Payments for
Environmental Services (PSE) are needed so that producers
can promote sustainable practices on their properties. With
PES already existing and regulated in the municipality of
Piracicaba/SP, this work seeks to identify priority rural
properties for multifunctional restoration in Piracicaba via
PES. The priority areas were defined by crossing criteria
related to agricultural suitability, relevant watersheds , APP
deficit and the potential for natural regeneration. At the end
of this work five groups of properties with high priority for
restoration were generated within the municipality of
Piracicaba.
