Funding Information:So what is the way forward? First we need advocacy. 1 The National Heart Foundation of Australia has already raised the profile of Aboriginal heart disease and given practical support through specific research scholarships and grants. The Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand has recently formed an Indigenous Working Group and the Australasian Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons will be able to make a contribution. There is increased awareness through activities of the NHMRC, the colleges and other non-government organisations. Initiatives have also been taken by the National Heart, Stroke and Vascular Health Strategies Group. Should these bodies get together and make a coordinated approach to policy-makers in government and other funding agencies the impact would be undeniable. But is it unrealistic to expect that we will ever see a collective push from these and other expert groups?
