Abstract

A review of nemipterid fishes (family Nemipteridae) in the Reference Collection of Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC) was undertaken to verify and update identifications of species. A total of 233 specimens in 128 lots of PMBC accession numbers were examined. These comprised 4 genera (Nemipterus Swainson, 1839, Parascolopsis Boulenger, 1901, Pentapodus Quoy and Gaimard, 1824, and Scolopsis Cuvier, 1814) and a total of 27 species (14 species of Nemipterus, 2 species of Parascolopsis, 1 species of Pentapodus and 10 species of Scolopsis). A recently redescribed species, Scolopsis curite (previously reported under different names), is a new record for Thailand. Three species in the collection (Pentapodus setosus, Scolopsis bimaculata and S. japonica) were collected from outside of Thai waters.
