Spin-orbit quenching of positronium during atomic collisions

    Abstract

    A model of Ps thermalization and annihilation involving the conversion p-Ps into p-Ps by the spin-orbit interaction that explains the small Ps fraction observed for Xe was advanced. A spin-conversion probability of about 10-4 per elastic collision at 2 eV incident energy was found to be feasible.
