Abstract

The introduction in 2000 of same-sex marriage rights in the Netherlands initiated a slow but irreversible movement. Since then, 31 countries on all continents have passed such legislation. Australia did so in 2017. Administrative statistics make it possible to count these samesex couples and describe their partners‘ characteristics. Following the French case (Population, no. 4, 2019), the Australian experience provides us with original demographic knowledge on these new married couples, as yet little studied statistically.
