The Other that Lurks Within: Aliens in Sci-Fi and Constitutional Law

Research output: Contribution to conferenceConference paper presented at Conference (not in Proceedings)

Abstract

Themes of the alien are some of the most ubiquitous and enduring in science fiction. In the Australian context, the alien invasion narrative reflects a white colonial anxiety, rooted in an epistemological crisis, of the fear of illegitimacy. Examples from both legal and cultural discourse will be drawn upon in this paper to unpack the concept of the alien other.
