Abstract

This paper presents two methods for unequal protection of video bitstream compressed by high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard. These techniques are proposed in two and four levels. The first method is based on number of coding units (CUs) defined inside a video frame, while the second one applies motion energy (ME) concept, which verifies motion activities of the video frame. Simulation results confirm that the proposed techniques significantly outperform conventional equal error protection (EEP) technique, while maintaining a similar Forward Error Correcting (FEC) code rate.
