Variational calculation of positron-atom scattering using configuration-interaction-type wave functions

    Abstract

    A study was performed on variational calculation of positron-atom scattering. To determine the phase shifts and Zeff for positron-copper scattering, the Kohn variational method was used with a configuration-interaction (CI)-type wave function. The method was found to give phase shifts and Zeff within 1-2% of the best previous calculations.
