Abstract

In 2019 blood samples, which had been collected for research purposes 50 years previously, were ceremonially returned to the North-east Arnhem Land community of Galiwin'ku (Elcho Island) by the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG) at The Australian National University (ANU). Return of these samples to the community was the culmination of two years of collaborative work during which trust and respect were established and a strong relationship developed between the community and NCIG.
