This dissertation identifies the environmental and health implications associated with the application of nitrogenous fertilisers. It identifies the conventional approach adopted by mainstream economics and the various instruments adopted in order to reduce the impact of nitrogenous fertilisers on the environment. There is also a brief outline of the approach adopted in the Northen Territory. Finally it introduces a multidisciplinary approach known as the cradle to grave transformation and postulates that it has a role in environmental policy.
